The Romanian Medical Society of New York

The Romanian Medical Society of New York was conceived as a forum for discussion, professional development, and cooperative efforts for their Romanian community.

**Napoleon Savescu was the founder of the Romanian Medical Society of New York. As president he encouraged other Romanian medical professionals to join his group. There were about 150 members in all: doctors, dentists, and psychologists. The group supported its members, gave out scholarships, assisted their community, and  hosted dinners. By 2003, the Society had matured into a Medical Association whose appeal had grown beyond all of their initial expectations. This was their website for a number of years before its domain expired.

I first learned about Napoleon Savescu and the Romanian Medical Society of New York from one of the folks I work with. I happen to be part of a custom software development team. We were in New Your City and had been working on some technical issues with one of my company's client. They were a food service and catering company that was quickly expanding and had outgrown its commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software. We were called in when they came to the conclusion that they had specific needs that were outside the scope of their old COTS programs. When we did our first analysis of the company's need the results were insane. People were wasting huge amounts of time every day as they tried to juggle too many programs to satisfy all their business and customer needs. So they finally hired the company I work for to come in to build customized software that would eliminate all the frustration, time, and money they were wasting on their old inefficient programs. ‹During dinner one evening after a particularly hectic day, we got to discussing the amazing mix of people, cultures, nationalities that are so much a part of New York City. M mentioned she was a second generation Romanian who grew up relatively nearby on Long Island. Then she started telling us stories about Napoleon Savescu and how her own father who was also a docotr in Romania became a member of the Romanian Medical Society of New York. I was impressed with Dr. Napoleon Savescu and his giving back to his Romanian community.

When I discovered that the domain of RMSNY.org.com was available I immediately bought it with the goal of rebuilding, from its archived pages, at least some of the former site’s content. This domain and its content should not disappear. Napoleon Savescu and other members of the Romanian Medical Society of New York were a positive binding force for the Romanian community. I want this site a testament to their good deeds. View it as a historic document to a particular time in the Romanian community around Long Island City.

**Dr. Napoleon Savescu is an internist in Long Island City, New York with an affiliation with the Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens. He received his medical degree from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy and has been practicing medicine for over 42 years. He is one of 127 doctors at Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens who specialize in Internal Medicine. He speaks multiple languages.

The  Romanian Medical Society of New York Society goals were:

  • To support a healthy Romanian-American Community;
  • To offer cultural and educational programs to its members;
  • To provide a meeting place and a forum where similar professionals of Romanian heritage can pursue common discussions and mutually beneficial opportunities;
  • To offer financial aid and advice to medical students, patients and other members of the general public;
  • To Offer the most current information and state-of-the-art medical supplies to Romania and Moldavia.
